Gov. Bevin makes appointments to Kentucky boards and commissions

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Gov. Matt Bevin has made the following appointments to Kentucky boards and commissions:

Kurt Allen Stafford has been appointed as a member of the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority.

• Kurt Allen Stafford, of Lexington, is a director of engineering. He will represent for-profit private water companies and serve for a term expiring June 30, 2023.

The Kentucky Infrastructure Authority provides funding for the construction of local public works projects.

David L. Dalton, Melinda Ellen Goble, Johnathan Clay Gay, Adam Dewayne Smith, Ashley Hughes Vice, Elizabeth J. Smith, Sherry Wilson Powers and Steven Robert Thomas have been appointed as members of the Education Professional Standards Board.

• David L. Dalton, of Somerset, is an assistant Commonwealth’s attorney. He will represent parents or private sector members with workforce experience and serve for a term expiring June 30, 2022; and
• Melinda Ellen Goble, of Richmond, is a president/CEO. She will represent parents or private sector members with workforce experience and serve for a term expiring June 30, 2022; and
• Johnathan Clay Gay, of Flemingsburg, is an attorney. He will represent parents or private sector members with workforce experience and serve for a term expiring June 30, 2022; and
• Adam Dewayne Smith, of Richmond, is a public school science teacher. He will represent traditional science educators and serve for a term expiring June 30, 2022; and
• Ashely Hughes Vice, of Carlisle, is a 4th grade teacher. She will represent mathematics educators and serve for a term expiring June 30, 2022; and
• Elizabeth J. Smith, of Midway, is an ESL teacher. She will represent elementary teachers and serve for a term expiring June 30, 2022; and
• Dr. Sherry Wilson Powers, of Lexington, is a dean of a College of Education. She will represent public postsecondary faculty members or administrators who trains educators and serve for a term expiring June 30, 2022; and
• Steven Robert Thomas, of Campbellsville, is a welding instructor. He will represent career and technical education professionals and serve for a term expiring June 30, 2022.

The Education Professional Standards Board establishes the standards and requirements for obtaining and maintaining a teaching certificate within the Commonwealth and sets forth the guidelines and standards for the programs that prepare individuals for becoming teachers and professional school personnel.

Wanda Elaine Washington has been appointed as a member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. State Commission.

• Wanda Elaine Washington, of Campbellsville, is a director. She will serve for a term expiring Dec. 12, 2022.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. State Commission focuses on Dr. King’s dream for all Americans to experience full equality, economic justice and interracial harmony. The Commission also sponsors the Martin Luther King Jr. Annual Celebration.
