Kentucky Chamber CEO: ‘We need to raise the gas tax’

Ashli Watts

HENDERSON, Ky. — As 2019 winds down, many are looking ahead to the 2020 session of the Kentucky General Assembly and the issues that might take precedence.

Ashli Watts, president and CEO of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, during a visit to Henderson Tuesday, listed some of the legislative priorities which the business community will be pushing.

While public pensions remains a prime concern, she said a new issue has emerged as the leader in the critical-needs category: infrastructure.

“Infrastructure is the Kentucky Chamber’s top priority. This means, and I’ll speak frankly here, that we need to raise the gas tax,” Watts said. For more on this story, please go to TheGleaner.com (website of The Henderson Gleaner newspaper).
