LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Arrasmith, a Louisville-based architecture firm, has announced it has joined Indianapolis-based architecture and engineering firm Schmidt Associates.
Arrasmith’s expertise in healthcare—including university lab, hospital, and medical research facility design—will support the joined firm’s Healthcare Studio. The firm also has studios in K-12 education, higher education, community, workplace, and lifestyle.
The joining is a result of both firms’ commitment to servant leadership and client success. Integrating the two will create an enhanced level of expertise, capacity, and service across a larger geographic area.
“Our firms each bring a rich history of design excellence to the table, allowing us to provide our clients with an even greater level of insight,” John Robertson, partner at Arrasmith, said. “Our skills, cultures, and portfolios complement each other very well.”
Arrasmith, also known as AJRC, has a legacy starting in 1926 in Louisville. Over more than 90 years, the firm has served clients through architecture and planning in 28 states and seven countries. Its work spans a variety of sectors, with a focus on healthcare, workplace, and community-focused projects.
Decades of service in Kentucky has delivered such notable projects as the original Bowman Air Terminal and the 800 Building—and in recent years, the Baptist East Hospital, Jewish Hospital (now U of L), the U of L Clinical Translational Research Building, Passport Health Plan Headquarters, and Farm Credit Headquarters.
Schmidt Associates has a longstanding history in Indiana. Opening its doors in 1976, the firm is best known for its work in education, both K-12 schools and higher education campuses, as well as its focus on lifelong learning through community-focused projects.

The combined firm now totals approximately 110 employees across architecture, engineering, interior design, construction administration, and administrative functions. Both the Louisville and Indianapolis offices will remain in their current locations.
