George Wright named senior adviser to University of Kentucky president

LEXINGTON, Ky. — George Wright has been named senior adviser to University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto. The announcement was made Friday in an email from Capilouto to the UK community. Wright, who also serves as UK’s interim vice president for institutional diversity, is a UK alumnus and president emeritus of Prairie View A&M University.

“Recently, we announced a series of changes within my cabinet, including adding several new positions to better reflect who we are as the commonwealth’s university,” Capilouto wrote.

“George Wright, who currently serves as the interim vice president for diversity, now additionally serves in a permanent role as a senior adviser to me. His expertise and portfolio are crucial in our progress toward creating a more inclusive, equitable campus for all members of our community,” he continued.

“We know that — as we face both a health pandemic and racial pandemic — this is not the time to slow down in our efforts to extend our mission. Because of the restructuring, and because of people like George, there will be more healing, more discovery, and more interventions to help our students reach their potential and create a more just world. I am excited to welcome him to our team.”
