Gateway Community and Technical College has received a community-based job-training grant from the U.S. Department of Labor for $846,670. The grant will fund the Northern Kentucky Regional Homeland Security Careers Project, which will enable Gateway to add the organizational infrastructure required to create new and expanded training activities designed to increase the pipeline of qualified workers into the security industry.
Fidelity Investments has laid off some 300 employees at its office in Covington as part of the company’s downsizing strategy. The Boston-based financial services company announced in November that it would eliminate 1,700 jobs companywide and at that time cut 100 Covington jobs. Despite the layoffs, Fidelity, which also has operations in Hebron, Ky., and nearby Blue Ash, Ohio, ranks as one of Northern Kentucky’s largest employers with around 4,000 employees.
