Bourbon distillers group earns first-place honors in tourism marketing competition

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (Nov. 14, 2012) — The Kentucky Distillers’ Association captured seven awards, including four first-place honors and the coveted “Most Innovative” prize, at a recent gala to honor the state’s best tourism campaigns in 2012.

“This is an exciting and historic time for our signature Bourbon industry, with the skyrocketing growth of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail tour and the increasing popularity of our iconic brands around the world,” said KDA President Eric Gregory.

The Kentucky Travel Industry Association (KTIA) presented its Traverse Awards for excellence in tourism marketing Oct. 23 during the Kentucky Travel Industry Annual Conference in Bowling Green.

The awards were:

– First place, Kentucky Bourbon Trail® brochure

– First place, KDA “Barrel Strength” brochure

– First place, KDA print advertisement

– First place, Kentucky Bourbon Trail® stave shot glass display

– Second place, Kentucky Bourbon Trail® t-shirt

– Honorable mention, Kentucky Bourbon Trail® mini barrel

In addition, the “Barrel Strength” brochure that highlights the Bourbon industry’s economic and tourism impact won the “Most Innovative” award for its creative rolling layout.

“This has been an incredible tool in educating people about our industry and its impact,” Gregory said.

A panel of marketing, public relations and tourism experts from outside Kentucky judged nearly 300 entries in 21 categories on the basis of concept, creativity, design and how well it relates to its audience.  The KTIA has given its Traverse Awards since 1986.
