Appointments to Kentucky Boards and Commissions

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear has made the following appointments to Kentucky boards and commissions:

Appointed Joan Brown as the Magistrate for the Fifth District of Clay County.

Appointed Donald McFadden as the Property Valuation Administrator for Laurel County.

Appointed Tom Abell, Brenda Gosney and Lance Lucas as members of the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees.

  • Tom Abell of Lexington is a physician at Abell Eyes Refractive Solutions. He shall replace Bryan Sunderland, whose term has expired. Dr. Abell shall serve for a term expiring June 30, 2028.
  • Brenda Gosney of Butler is a retired hospital administrator. She shall replace Michael Christian, whose term has expired.  Ms. Gosney shall serve for a term expiring June 30, 2028.
  • Lance Lucas of Union is an attorney at Lucas and Dietz. He shall replace Elizabeth McCoy, whose term has expired.  Mr. Lucas shall serve for a term expiring June 30, 2028.

Appointed Edwin Orange and Kristie Whitlatch as members of the Eastern Kentucky University Board of Regents.

  • Edwin Orange of Frankfort is a consultant at Three Poplars LLC. He shall replace Vasu Vasudevan, whose term has expired. Mr. Orange shall serve for a term expiring June 30, 2028.
  • Kristie Whitlatch of Ashland is the president and chief executive officer at King’s Daughters Health System. She shall replace Lewis Diaz, whose term has expired.  Ms. Whitlatch shall serve for a term expiring June 30, 2028.

Appointed Gary Broady and Melissa Dennison as members of the Western Kentucky University Board of Regents.

  • Gary Broady of Franklin is the executive director of Bluegrass Community Bankers Association. He shall replace Julie Hinson, whose term has expired. Mr. Broady shall serve for a term expiring June 30, 2028.
  • Melissa Dennison of Lexington is a physician at Cumberland Family Medical. She shall replace Jason McKinney.  Dr. Dennison shall serve for a term expiring June 30, 2028.

Appointed Nathan Smith and Brad Zapp as members of the Northern Kentucky University Board of Regents.

  • Nathan Smith of Fort Mitchell is the chief investment officer at Flagship Communities REIT. He shall replace Gregory Shumate, whose term has expired. Mr. Smith shall serve for a term expiring June 30, 2028.
  • Brad Zapp of Covington is the managing partner of Connetic Ventures. He shall replace Normand Desmarais, whose term has expired. Mr. Zapp shall serve for a term expiring June 30, 2028.

Appointed Laura Russell as a member of the Morehead State University Board of Regents. The Governor has also reappointed Craig Preece.

  • Laura Russell of Louisville is an attorney at Eddins Domine Law Group PLLC. She shall replace Terri Walters, whose term has expired.  Ms. Russell shall serve for a term expiring June 30, 2028.
  • Craig Preece of Inez is the general manager of The Elite Agency Inc. He shall serve for a term expiring June 30, 2028.

Reappointed Gerald Patton and Robert Ramsey as members of the Kentucky State University Board of Regents.

  • Gerald Patton of Rancho Mirage, California, is a retired higher education executive and shall serve for a term expiring June 30, 2028.
  • Robert Ramsey of Georgetown is retired from public service and shall serve for a term expiring June 30, 2028.
