Two Louisville-based companies have been named to Forbes magazine’s “200 Best Small Companies” list for 2007.

Texas Roadhouse makes its appearance on the list for the second consecutive year, this year coming in at No. 42. (The steakhouse chain was listed at No. 38 in 2006).
Home health care provider Almost Family made its debut on the list at No. 77 and was also featured as one of the top 10 “Best Newcomers” to the list.

The annual list tracks publicly traded companies in the United States that have revenues between $5 million and $750 million and share prices above $5 as of Oct. 1. Candidates are judged according to return on equity, sustained sales and net profit growth over 12-month and five-year periods. (According to Forbes, the listing does not include banks, utilities and REITs because “operational management has less of an impact on their results than market movements, industry regulation and requirements forcing them to pay out a majority of taxable income, respectively.”)

Texas Roadhouse saw its 12-month sales grow 25 percent. The company’s five-year average sales growth was 29 percent, with five-year average earnings growth of 26 percent.

Almost Family experienced a 12-month sales growth of 44 percent. The company’s five-year average sales growth was 2 percent with five-year earnings growth of 51 percent.
