Aspen Compressor LLC has opened an $18 million mini-compressor manufacturing plant in Somerset that is expected to create 40 high-tech jobs and more than 200 jobs in all.
Aspen Compressor is a technology company that manufactures miniature compressors for defense and civilian use. The company is an affiliate of Aspen Systems Inc. (ASI), which develops advanced technologies and products for energy, environmental and defense applications. ASI and its affiliates provide solutions for defense, aerospace, law enforcement, chemical, oil and gas, and health care industries.
“The Somerset plant will be mass-producing the world’s smallest refrigeration compressor developed over the past 10 years by the parent company, Aspen Systems Inc., of Massachusetts,” Aspen CEO Kang P. Lee said, noting that the miniature compressors will become the basis for energy-efficient distributed air conditioning.
The products will be used in compact and portable cooling systems for soldiers, firefighters, chem-bio-nuclear cleanup crews, steel mill workers, law enforcement personnel, and patients; microprocessors and electronics; and various small appliances, Lee said.
