Gateway Community and Technical College has been awarded a $598,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop an integrated manufacturing/mecha-tronics technician training program that will cover mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and process control technology. Gateway students will be able to obtain an integrated manufacturing/mechatronics technician certificate at Gateway’s Boone Campus beginning next fall. In addition to serving the needs of the region’s expanding manufacturing economy, the initiative also complements the college’s Center for Advanced Manufacturing Competitiveness, which is slated to open in 2009, said Gateway President and CEO G. Edward Hughes. Gateway operates campuses in Covington/Park Hills, Edgewood, Highland Heights and Boone County, and also offers classes in Pendleton County.
