Louisville’s iconic Brown Hotel completes $4 million renovation

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Dec. 7, 2012) – – – The Brown Hotel is proud to announce the completion of its 12-month, $4 million renovation of all 293 guest rooms. The luxuriously rejuvenated rooms were updated by designer Jeanne Jenkins of Secret Garden Interiors with stylish window and wall treatments, lush floor coverings, refinished wood pieces and hand-selected art. This redesign project marks one of the largest transformations in the iconic Louisville, Kentucky hotel’s nearly 90 year existence.

“My design vision for this project was the same that any lover of history would have,” said Jenkins. “I wanted to stay true to the original vision of the building’s creator.”

A “Kentucky State of Mind” carries throughout the hotel’s 16 newly renovated floors with images of pastorals, thoroughbreds, wildlife and Kentucky Derby scenes, all with a nod to the history of the building. Over 1800 giclée art pieces, all printed and framed in the United States, tell stories of Louisville’s history in the English Renaissance-style corridors.

In an effort to make the project eco-friendly, many existing pieces were reused or sourced locally. Nearly 500 wooden headboards were reupholstered and refinished to renew the beauty of the 89-year-old hotel’s traditionally designed elements. Keeping with the grand and distinctive Georgian Revival architecture of the building and adding the refined, personal touches of a high-end hotel were of utmost importance in the refurbishing plan.

Bathrooms also received stunning makeovers featuring luxurious granite-top vanities and Spanish marble accents. A European goose down duvet and signature hand-woven throw adorn each of the hotel’s feather beds to give guests the ultimate combination of comfort and relaxation. Rooms vary in color scheme including rich warm reds; sophisticated onyx; tan velvets; cool blue embroidery; and soothing taupe damasks. Other amenities include flat-screen televisions, multi-line phones and wireless high-speed internet access.

“Keeping the hotel in top shape is an ongoing mission for us,” said General Manager Brad Walker. “We’re always working to go above and beyond the expectations of our guests so that they come back year after year.”

The Brown Hotel will continue to offer the exceptional service and award-winning fine dining that make it one of the most memorable hotels in the region for business travelers, bourbon connoisseurs and Kentucky Derby enthusiasts year-round.
