Overly elected House Majority Caucus Chair
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 11, 2013) — Under a two-year reorganization plan announced today by House leaders, state Rep. Leslie Combs will now serve as chair of the House Budget Review Subcommittee on Transportation, which leads the way in writing the state’s highway plan. The new role is a switch from the past two years, when she chaired the House Committee on Tourism Development and Energy.
While I have thoroughly enjoyed my time leading that committee, this move will give me a better chance to be more involved in addressing Kentucky’s infrastructure needs,” said Rep. Combs, D-Pikeville. “I will of course still be heavily involved in promoting and protecting the commonwealth’s economic and tourism development and doing all I can to boost our contributions in the field of energy.”
“Leslie has done an incredible job as chair for the past two years, so the other House leaders and I agreed she would be a natural fit when it comes to serving as our point person on putting together the road plan, which outside of the budget itself is the most important legislation the General Assembly passes,” said House Speaker Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg.
She was able to make the transition because the previous chair, state Rep. Sannie Overly, D-Paris, was elected on Tuesday to be the House Majority Caucus Chair, one of the chamber’s five leadership positions.
“My goal is to build on Sannie’s fine work, because she has done an outstanding job,” Combs said. “With her guidance, we now have a true Six-Year Road Plan, which unfortunately was not the case even a few years ago. I’m committed to making sure that when people see a project added to the plan, they can be positive that it will be built on time.”
