GEORGETOWN, Ky. (Jan. 21, 2013) — Georgetown College has enlisted AGB Search, founded by the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges, to assist in the selection of candidates to be considered for the college’s presidency. Georgetown’s current president, Bill Crouch, is retiring June 30.
AGB, which works exclusively in the field of higher education, was chosen after careful review of several well-qualified executive search firms.
“AGB has a strong track record of helping schools like ours recruit and identify presidents, provosts and deans,” said William J. Houston, vice-chair of the college’s board of trustees and chair of the presidential search committee.
In the last three years, AGB has conducted more than 100 successful leadership searches, he added.
The specialist assigned to work with Georgetown College is James Davis, Ph.D., former president of Shenandoah University in Virginia, where he served for 26 years before retiring in 2008.
“Shenandoah’s affiliation with the United Methodist Church gives Dr. Davis insight into the needs of a Christian college,” Houston said. “His tenure also provides him familiarity with the challenges Georgetown faces in seeking a new leader after 21 years of President Bill Crouch’s leadership.”
Crouch, who became Georgetown College’s 23rd president in 1991, announced his pending retirement in October 2012.
Georgetown’s presidential search committee is working to identify the characteristics being sought for the institution’s next president. It already has solicited input from students, faculty, staff and alumni and will be formulating a profile during a series of meetings on campus with Dr. Davis next week. The goal is to have a new president chosen by the end of May 2013.
