TOMPKINSVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 9, 2014) — Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner James Comer officially entered the 2015 Governor’s race Tuesday and introduced his running mate, state Sen. Chris McDaniel.
McDaniel serves on the following committees: Military and Veteran’s Affairs, Licensing and Occupations, State and Local Government, Appropriations and Revenue (Chair, General Government), Contract Review, Capital Projects and Bond Oversight, and Program Review, Oversight, and Investigations (Chair).
More than a thousand supporters attended the event in Tompkinsville, according to the Comer campaign.
“I wanted to begin this journey in my hometown because this community symbolizes so much about our commonwealth … both the greatness of our state and the challenges we face,” Comer said.
Republican House Leader Jeff Hoover served as emcee of the event, which also included a surprise appearance from coal magnate Joe Craft and former UN Ambassador Kelly Knight, both nationally-renowned activists for conservative causes.
McDaniel was introduced at the end of the program. In addition to being a state senator, he is a Citadel graduate, Army veteran and successful small business owner.
“Chris is a leader on complex issues that will be critical to Kentucky’s future and we share a vision to make life better for all Kentuckians,” Comer said.
After the announcement, Comer, McDaniel and their wives answered questions from the press. The candidates will hit the ground running this week with appearances in Glasgow, Louisville, Lexington, Northern Kentucky and Ashland.
