Annual firefighters school this weekend in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 22, 2013) — Firefighters from across the state will soon convene in Lexington for the 26th Annual Officers School this weekend at the Lexington Convention Center. The three-day event is now called the the Bryant Stiles Annual Officers School, in memory of the late director of State Fire/Rescue Training.

During the annual training event, which starts today, firefighters will learn the latest in fire safety, equipment, drills and other information during classroom and hands-on instruction.

“It’s important our firefighters are well-educated and prepared to respond to fire situations and any other specialized rescues,” said Ronnie Day, executive director of the Kentucky Fire Commission.

More than 1,000 firefighters and first responders are expected to attend from 81 counties across the state. They will choose from more than 30 courses offering both hands-on and classroom training.
