Mazak awarded $224,050 in KY WINS funding for Gateway training

FLORENCE, Ky. (March 5, 2013) —Mazak Corp. has been awarded $224,050 in funds from KY WINS to provide skill upgrades for newly hired employees at its Florence manufacturing facility. Gateway Community and Technical College will conduct the training, which is aimed at developing new employees as CNC technicians, at its Boone Campus.

“Gateway helps us sharpen our competitive edge by working with us to provide customized skill upgrades to our workforce,” said Mike Vogt, vice president of human resources and general affairs at MazakUSA. “We rely on Gateway to help us keep our current workforce up to date and as a source of well-trained new employees.”

Gateway provides industry partners with access to more than $1 million a year in KY WINS funds. KY WINS, the Kentucky Workforce Investment Network System, provides funding to Kentucky companies to assist with the cost of workforce training and assessment services. KY WINS funds are distributed on a project basis and require a company cash match of 35 percent.

Gateway offers CNC and other types of training for advanced manufacturing jobs to individuals through its academic programs. New classes begin March 18.
