LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 18, 2013) – Town Branch Bourbon and Pearse Lyons Reserve malt whiskey get rave reviews from local connoisseurs, but now have earned international gold and silver medals. The spirits by Alltech’s Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company each won prestigious awards in February and March at two separate international spirits competitions: The Spirits of the Americas competition in Tampa and the Denver International Spirits Competition.

The honors included:

•  Gold Medal — Pearse Lyons Reserve malt whiskey, American Whisky division, 2013 Spirits of the Americas competition.

• Silver Medal — Town Branch Bourbon, American Whisky division, 2013 Spirits of the Americas competition.

• Silver Medal — Town Branch Bourbon, 2013 Denver International Spirits Competition.

“We are extremely pleased for our spirits to earn this sort of international recognition,” said Hal Gervis, global operations manager for Alltech’s Lexington Brewing and Distilling Co. “Our Town Branch Bourbon and Pearse Lyons Reserve are carefully crafted to be smooth, enjoyable drinks that both the whiskey connoisseur and the new bourbon or whiskey drinker could enjoy. These awards reflect that vast appeal.”

The inaugural Spirits of the Americas competition took place February 11-12 in Tampa, and included entries from seven countries. The competition is designed to highlight the regional spirits of the Americas. Products were judged through blind tastings on a 100-point basis, concentrating on appearance, aromatics, flavor, mouth feel and finish.

The second annual 2013 Denver International Spirits Competition took place March 2-3 at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield, Colo. Twelve prominent spirits professionals participated in the double-blind tasting.

Town Branch Bourbon and Pearse Lyons Reserve are already widely distributed in the United States, as well as overseas in Ireland, China and Canada. Distribution and the product line continue to expand, with new releases coming soon. Alltech’s Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company spirits are available for tasting as part of the Town Branch Distillery tour, which also includes the company’s brewery. The brewery produces the company’s well-known family of Kentucky Ale beers, including its popular barrel-aged Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale.

The Town Branch Distillery is the newest addition to the world-renowned Kentucky Bourbon Trail, recently named by National Geographic as one of the 10 Best Spring Trips of 2013 — one of only three U.S. trips featured in the prestigious list.
