Traffic game plan seeks to reduce tie-ups in Lexington

Transportation officials suggest multiple routes for NCAA tournament goers

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 19, 2013) Negotiating a handful of Lexington road construction projects may be as challenging to fans attending the second and third rounds of the NCAA basketball tournament, as a full-court press to a point guard.

Tournament-goers are also advised to allow extra time because of Rupp Arena’s location in downtown Lexington.

While one-lane traffic has occurred recently because of work on KY 922 (Newtown Pike) and U.S. 60 (Versailles Road) in Lexington, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet anticipates a two-lane traffic flow on both routes before the first tip-off Thursday afternoon.

The Transportation Cabinet suggests the following routes:

♦ Traffic from the north, east and west via Interstate 75 and Interstate 64 should use exit 113, Broadway to Rupp Arena.

♦ Traffic from the south via I-75 should use exit 104, Richmond Road.

Tournament-goers are also advised to allow extra time because of Rupp Arena’s location in downtown Lexington.
