10 businesses join list of Kentucky Crafted Retailers

28 retailers now participate in the Arts Council program

FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 28, 2013) — Ten new specialty retail shops have been added to the list of official Kentucky Crafted Retailers, a program of the Kentucky Arts Council.

kentucky_craftedA total of 28 retail businesses are in the program. Twenty-four are in Kentucky, two in Ohio and one each in Indiana and Illinois. The businesses must meet certain benchmarks to qualify for the designation, which relates to selling items created by artists in the Kentucky Crafted Program.

“The Kentucky Crafted Retailer Program started last year and we have received great response from business owners in Kentucky and surrounding states who understand work created by Kentucky’s artists and craftspeople are of high value to consumers,” said Lori Meadows, arts council executive director. “Retailers in the program are unique and profitable small businesses dedicated to providing quality items for their customers.”

Retailers were required to meet the following criteria to receive designation:

♦ Provide proof of wholesale purchases totaling a minimum of $1,300 at Kentucky Crafted: The Market 2013 or Buyers Market of American Craft; or have placed orders before March 31, 2013, as a result of attending The Market.

♦ Provide proof of orders with at least three different Kentucky Crafted artists.

♦ Operate a retail venue open to the public, or be a Kentucky Crafted artist operating a store or gallery with regular store hours.
