Governor makes appointments to boards and commissions

FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 26, 2013) –Gov. Steve Beshear has made the following appointments to Kentucky boards and commissions:

Gov. Beshear has reappointed Karen W. Bearden to the Kentucky State University Board of Regents to serve for a term expiring June 30, 2019.

  • Karen W. Bearden, of Frankfort, is a management consultant.

Gov. Beshear has appointed Dr. Kevin W. Pugh to the Morehead State University Board of Regents to serve for a term expiring June 30, 2019.

  • Dr. Kevin W. Pugh, of Pikeville, is a physician at Pikeville Medical Center. The appointment replaces James H. Booth, whose term has expired.

Gov. Beshear has reappointed Susan S. Guess to the Murray State University Board of Regents to serve for a term expiring June 30, 2019.

  • Susan S. Guess, of Paducah, is senior vice president and marketing director at Paducah Bank and Trust.

Gov. Beshear has appointed Andra’ R. Ward to the Northern Kentucky University Board of Regents to serve for a term expiring June 30, 2019.

  • Andra’ R. Ward, of Cincinnati, is president and CEO of the Khafre Ward Corp. The appointment replaces Martin C. Butler, whose term has expired.

Gov. Beshear has appointed Gillard B. Johnson to the Western Kentucky University Board of Regents to serve for a term expiring June 30, 2019.

  • Gillard B. Johnson, of Nicholasville, is an attorney at McNair Law Firm. The appointment replaces James N. Johnson, whose term has expired.

Gov. Beshear has appointed the following members to the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees to serve for terms expiring June 30, 2019:

  • David V. Hawpe, of Louisville, is a retired journalist. The appointment replaces Billy Joe Miles, whose term has expired.
  • Angela L. Edwards, of Louisville, is an attorney at Dinsmore & Shohl. The appointment replaces Pamela R. May.
  • James H. Booth, of Inez, is a business entrepreneur and coal operator with Matrix Energy LLC. The appointment replaces Charles Sachatello, whose term has expired.

Gov. Beshear has appointed the following members to the University of Louisville Board of Trustees to serve for terms expiring June 30, 2019:

  • Stephen P. Campbell, of Goshen, is an investment banker with Lazard Freres & Co. The appointment replaces William M. Selvidge, whose term has expired.
  • Robert P. Benson Jr., of Louisville, is an attorney with Benson, Byrne, Risch, Siemens & Lange LLP. The appointment replaces Franky L. Minnifield, whose term has expired. Benson will represent the University of Louisville Alumni.

Gov. Beshear has reappointed Emily S. Bingham to the board to serve for a term expiring June 30, 2019.

  • Emily S. Bingham, of Louisville, is a historian.

Gov. Beshear has reappointed the following members of the Kentucky Authority for Educational Television to serve for terms expiring June 30, 2017:

  • Suvas G. Desai, of Lexington, is a physician employed by St. Joseph Medical Foundation.
  • Heidi S. Margulis, of Louisville, is a senior vice president, public affairs, for Humana Inc.

Gov. Beshear has appointed Donald Tarter to the Kentucky Community and Technical College System Board of Regents to serve for a term expiring July 21, 2019.

  • Donald Tarter, of Dunnville, is self-employed. The appointment replaces Richard A. Bean, whose term has expired.

Gov. Beshear has reappointed the following members to the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority Board of Directors and the Kentucky Higher Education Student Loan Corporation Board of Directors to serve for terms expiring June 15, 2017:

  • Erica L. Horn, of Lexington, is an attorney with Stoll Keenon Ogden PLLC.
  • Kristi P. Nelson, of Union, is an attorney with Pomeroy IT Solutions Inc.
  • Barbara S. Smith, of Louisville, is president and CEO, Fund for the Arts.

Gov. Beshear has appointed the following members to the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission to serve for terms expiring July 1, 2016:

  • James David Richardson, of Louisville, is a surgeon with the University of Louisville School of Medicine. The appointment replaces Franklin S. Kling, whose term has expired.
  • D. Wayne Lukas, of Louisville, is a thoroughbred horse trainer. The appointment replaces Michael A. Pitino, whose term has expired.

Gov. Beshear has reappointed the following members to the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission to serve for terms expiring July 1, 2016:

  • Frank L. Jones, of Louisville, is CEO of Recreonics Inc.
  • Burr James Travis, of Fort Mitchell, is an attorney with Busald, Funk and Zevely.
  • Jerry Yon, of Lexington, is a physician.
