Runway reconstruction, repairs among uses for grants
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 3, 2013) – More than $3.5 million in federal grants has been awarded to four Kentucky airports.
The grants by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will help fund runway reconstruction and repairs and an environmental analysis to improve safety. The grants will pay for a large percentage of project costs, but the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Department of Aviation (KDA) will cover portions of all four projects.
The grants awarded include:
Breckinridge County Airport, Hardinsburg – $3.2 million to increase the length of the runway and include a connector taxiway to the newly relocated airport apron area. The FAA share represents 90 percent of the total expected cost of $3.55 million. The KDA will provide 5 percent of the cost – an estimated $177,839 – and the Breckinridge County Airport Board will provide 5 percent.
Mayfield-Graves County Airport – $215,916 for runway and pavement rehabilitation for the taxiway. The FAA share represents 90 percent of the total expected cost of $239,907. The KDA will provide 7.5 percent of the cost – an estimated $17,993 – and the Mayfield-Graves County Airport Board will provide 2.5 percent – an estimated $5,998.
Cynthiana-Harrison County Airport – $175,000 for runway repairs. The FAA share represents 90 percent of the total anticipated cost of $194,444. The KDA will provide 7.5 percent of the cost – an estimated $14,583 – and the Cynthiana-Harrison County Airport Board will provide 2.5 percent – an estimated $4,861.
Stanton-Powell County Airport – $163,568 for an environmental analysis and additional planning to construct a Runway Safety Area Improvement project. The FAA share represents 90 percent of the total anticipated cost of $181,742. The KDA will provide 7.5 percent of the cost – an estimated $13,631 – and the Stanton-Powell County Airport Board will provide 2.5 percent – an estimated $4,543.
