Education commissioner to discuss Breathitt County schools’ progress

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Oct. 17, 2013) — Education Commissioner Terry Holliday will conduct a news conference Friday on progress in the Breathitt County school district. It will start at noon at Breathitt County High School, 2307 Bobcat Lane, in Jackson, Ky.

The district has been under state management since December 2012 after an audit found “a pattern of a significant lack of efficiency and effectiveness in the governance and administration of the school district” and that the district lacked “the necessary capacity to develop and implement systemic change on its own.”

During the news conference, the commissioner will outline the progress that the Breathitt County schools have made under state management and announce a new program that will benefit students in the district.
