Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale begins Tuesday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 31, 2013) – Keeneland’s 70th annual November Breeding Stock Sale – internationally recognized as the premier auction of its kind – will begin Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m.

The entire 10-day sale, which runs through Nov. 14, will be streamed live on Keeneland’s website, Keeneland.com. All sessions begin at 10 a.m.

A total of 3,602 horses are cataloged to the sale: 1,739 broodmares and broodmare prospects, 1,364 weanlings, 481 horses of racing age, 10 yearlings, and eight stallions.

Keeneland has created a microsite on Keeneland.com titled Featured November Offerings to provide prospective buyers with race records, race video highlights and a photo gallery for the 15 Grade 1 stakes winners cataloged for Book 1. Among the accomplished young fillies and mares highlighted are champion sprinter Groupie Doll, winner of the 2012 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) and 2013 Presque Isle Downs Masters (G2) in track-record time, and recent Grade 1 winners Byrama (GB), Daisy Devine, Executiveprivilege, Lady of Fifty, Lady of Shamrock, and Summer Soiree, who is foal to Medaglia d’Oro.

The microsite also features millionaire Boisterous, winner of this year’s Man o’ War (G1) and Monmouth (G2), and cataloged as a racing or stallion prospect on the first day of the sale.

The November Sale also is highlighted by the complete dispersal of E. Paul Robsham LLC Stables, consigned by Lane’s End, agent, and the dispersal of the estate of Eric Kronfeld, consigned by Winter Quarter Farm, agent. Robsham’s dispersal consists of 24 mares, weanlings and yearlings and features Grade 1 winners Awesome Maria, in foal to Giant’s Causeway, and R Heat Lightning, in foal to Bernardini. The Kronfeld dispersal includes Eblouissante, the winning half-sister to Horse of the Year Zenyatta. The microsite provides information on the horses in both dispersals.

Additionally, a number of horses of racing age will be sold on Tuesday, Nov. 12 and include consignments from Adena Springs, agent, and WinStar Racing, agent.

The November Sale includes mares in foal to 206 of the world’s most prominent stallions, among them Algorithms, Arch, Awesome Again, Bernardini, Blame, Bodemeister, Candy Ride (ARG), Distorted Humor, Drosselmeyer, Elusive Quality, First Defence, Frankel (GB), Galileo (IRE), Giant’s Causeway, Harlan’s Holiday, Kittens Joy, Lemon Drop Kid, Lonhro (AUS), Lookin At Lucky, Medaglia d’Oro, Midnight Lute, More Than Ready, Pioneerof the Nile, Quality Road, Scat Daddy, Shackleford, Smart Strike, Speightstown, Spring At Last, Stay Thirsty, Stormy Atlantic, Street Cry (IRE), Tapit, The Factor, Tiznow, To Honor and Serve, Trappe Shot, Unbridled’s Song, Uncle Mo, Union Rags, and War Front.

Weanlings that were cataloged represent 192 top stallions such as Arch, Awesome Again, Bernardini, Blame, Candy Ride (ARG), Cape Blanco (IRE), Dansili (GB), Distorted Humor, Drosselmeyer, Elusive Quality, Empire Maker, Fastnet Rock (AUS), Galileo (IRE), Giant’s Causeway, Gio Ponti, Harlan’s Holiday, Kitten’s Joy, Lemon Drop Kid, Lonhro (AUS), Lookin At Lucky, Malibu Moon, Medaglia d’Oro, Midnight Lute, More Than Ready, Pioneerof the Nile, Pulpit, Quality Road, Scat Daddy, Smart Strike, Speightstown, Stormy Atlantic, Street Cry (IRE), Street Sense, Tapit, Tiznow, Trappe Shot, Unbridled’s Song, and War Front.

Prominent November Sale alumni sold as weanlings include such 2013 standouts as No Nay Never, winner of the Darley Prix Morny (G1) at Deauville and the Norfolk (G2) at Royal Ascot; Secret Compass, winner of the Chandelier (G1) at Santa Anita; and Hakeem, winner of the Group 1 Kayarel in Turkey.

Another Grade 1 winner in 2013 that is a November Sale graduate is multiple champion Royal Delta, who was sold for $8.5 million at the 2011 sale. Besilu Stables bought Royal Delta from Chanteclair Farm, agent for the  Complete Dispersal of Saud bin Khaled’s Palides Investments N.V. Inc. The amount is a November Sale record for a horse in training.
