#TweetYourBrand: Louisville group to host discussion on developing social media presence

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 16, 2014) – Creating a professional social media presence goes beyond sharing an industry story on Twitter or posting an update on LinkedIn. The question is: How do you accomplish that?Computer screen showing the website of Twitter

#TweetYourBrand, a social media discussion hosted by Louisville Urban League Young Professionals (LULYP), will share how to develop and brand your image.

“Young professionals are well aware of the do’s and don’ts of social media, but #TweetYourBrand takes it a step further,” said James Penny, LULYP professional and leadership development director. “We want our guests and members to walk away knowing what steps to take the following morning to not just exist on social media, but to start branding themselves.”

The event will take place on Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage in Louisville, located at 1701 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd., 40203.

Tickets are $15 at the door, but are available for a discount rate of $10 if purchased online in advance. The discussion will be preceded with a networking session and concluded by a cocktail reception.

Guests, physically present or not, are asked to tweet during the event using the hashtag #TweetYourBrand and send questions to the organization’s Twitter handle, @lulypconnected.

The panel will include:

♦   Stacey Wade, president of NIMBUS Inc.

♦   Jessica Taylor, admissions and social media/marketing coordinator for Paul Mitchell the School – Louisville and founder of Kentucky Networking Group

♦   Kenisha Thompson, M.A., consumer experience analyst for Humana

A special guest from the University of Louisville will also be on the panel.

The moderator for the event will be Richard-Abraham Rugnao, president and chief emerge officer of the public affairs firm RĀR. Rugnao previously worked as senior manager of government relations and global diversity for Yum! Brands and senior director of communications with the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

#TweetYourBrand falls during Join Week, a membership initiative created by the National Urban League Young Professionals. LULYP’s Join Week runs from Jan. 18-25. The week is peppered with community service opportunities. At the end of the week, members and guests are invited to have brunch with LULYP at Hillbilly Tea on Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. for brunch.
