Kentucky State Park staff offers favorite hiking trails

FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 5, 2014) – Staff members with the Kentucky State Parks are offering free advice on some of their favorite hiking trails across the state.

The suggested trails are on the Kentucky State Park website – www.parks.ky.gov under “Staff Picks” – and offer basic information about the trails, a brief description of what guests will see and experience while on these state park hiking trails as well as a photo.

“With more than 300 miles of trails, we have a wide variety of choices, from easy 1-mile walks to longer and more challenging treks in the woods,” Parks Commissioner Elaine Walker said. “We want to introduce these trails and our hiking opportunities to our guests so they can enjoy the outdoors at Kentucky State Parks, regardless of their experience or ability.”

The Kentucky State Parks are participating in Gov. Steve Beshear’s kyhealthnow initiative to promote the health and fitness of all Kentuckians. Hiking is great exercise and state park hiking trails are easily accessible.

Hikers are asked to take the usual precautions when visiting state park trails: check the weather, bring water, dress appropriately, stay on the trail and please don’t litter. You should not hike alone.
