Low income heating assistance begins Nov. 3 in Louisville

Applicants can begin scheduling appointments

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 28, 2014) — The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) that helps Louisville’s low income residents with their utility bills begins Monday. The Subsidy Phase runs through Dec. 11

liheap_logo_color_0Residents wishing to apply must have an appointment between from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday at the Central CAP Office located at the Urban Government Center, 810 Barret Ave., Room 127.

For the Subsidy Phase of LIHEAP, residents can apply regardless of the status of their utility bills and need to bring a picture ID and most recent heating bill
or
Verification from landlord, stating heating expenses are included in rent.

Beginning Nov. 3, appointments will be issued at all three CAP offices weekdays between 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., based on appointment availability. All offices will be closed Nov. 27 and Nov. 28 for the Thanksgiving holiday and no appointments will be issued on Fridays at the East Office.

Applicants must be Jefferson County residents with a household income at or below 130 percent of the federal poverty guidelines and willing to provide the following documentation at the time of their appointment:

  • Picture ID for head of household (if available)
  • Proof of all household income for the preceding month (food stamp award letter, Social Security award letter, pay stubs, etc.). All individuals 18 or over in the household with no income – and who do not receive food stamps — must have a Proof of No Income form completed prior to applying for benefits.   • Social Security card(s) or official documentation with social security numbers or Permanent Resident Card Numbers for everyone living in the household.
  • Most recent heating bill or verification from landlord that heating expenses are included in the rent (i.e. lease agreements).
