State Parks hosting Valentine’s Day events

Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday this year

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 19, 2015) — Many State Parks are offering events and packages in February to help celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Here is a listing of special events (all times local):

Honeymooners Weekend, Feb. 13-15: Barren River Lake State Resort Park invites you to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Bring your special someone for a fun, romantic weekend getaway. Friday night is costume karaoke night with a luau theme! Pull on a grass skirt and practice your hula to sing your favorite beach songs! Saturday at 2 p.m. will feature the “Not-so Newly Wed Game” to see how well you know your sweetheart. Saturday night, sit down in the Driftwood Restaurant and enjoy a dinner buffet featuring prime rib, bacon-wrapped pork minion with apple bourbon sauce, fried catfish, grilled salmon and more. Then dance to your favorite songs provided by DJ Scooter Davis from 8-midnight. Big Bone Lick State Historic Site, Union: Bison and Bones, Feb. 14. Visit Big Bone Lick State Historic Site and learn about the park’s herd of bison and their Ice Age history. The program will include a short hike to the bison fields. This program will be offered at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will last about 30 minutes. The second program of the day is about bones. Join the park interpreter at the museum and take a look at some of the big bones that have been found in the area. If weather permits, we will take a stroll to the salt springs. Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park, Mount Olivet: Valentine Dinner Theater, Feb. 13, 14. Patrons will dine from a delicious all-you-can-eat buffet featuring Kentucky State Park favorites as well as a dessert buffet. Afterwards, be treated to world-class entertainment! This year’s show is “Spooky Dog & the Teenage Gang Mysteries.” Tickets are $35 (includes tax) per person for dinner and entertainment. Packages are available for $140.00 (tax included) that include an overnight stay in the lodge, two dinner theater tickets, and breakfast for two the following morning. : Dancing and Mystery By The Lake Dinner Theater, Feb 13-15: Enjoy a fun-filled weekend at Buckhorn Lake to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your special someone. This weekend of romance (and revenge) is sponsored by Friends of Buckhorn Lake SRP. Celebrate with dancing, games and a “murder mystery” by the lake dinner theater. Friday night games and dance will start at 8 p.m. Snacks will be provided. Saturday night’s interactive murder mystery dinner theater begins at 7 p.m. Two packages are being offered. One package includes Friday and Saturday night stays in the lodge, continental breakfast, Friday night games and dance, and Saturday night murder mystery dinner theater. The cost is $190 per couple based on double occupancy. The second package includes murder mystery dinner theatre only for $75 per couple. Taxes not included. Call 606-398-7510.

Carter Caves State Resort Park, Olive Hill: Valentines Dinner Theater, Feb. 13-14. Spend a romantic evening in the natural beauty of the eastern Kentucky foothills! Enjoy a buffet-style dinner, followed by a special performance by storyteller William Scott Hill telling many funny stories about marriage. Show times are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Seating will begin at 6:45 p.m. The cost for the dinner and show is $34.95 (plus tax) per person. Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, Corbin: Romantic Getaway, Feb. 13-15. Bring your special someone to Cumberland Falls for a night of entertainment and relaxation. On Friday and Saturday evening, Fantastical Theatricals will entertain with an interactive murder mystery theater. The show, “The Golden Galz: Throw Mama off the Guest List!” starts at 8:30 p.m. Packages include a choice of Friday or Saturday night lodge room, dinner for two, mystery theater and Saturday breakfast for $176.50  plus tax. E.P. ‘Tom’ Sawyer State Park, Louisville: Sweetheart Wreath Workshop, Feb. 14. Bring your sweetie, bring a friend, or come by yourself! Come out and make a unique heart-shaped wreath for Valentine’s Day at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park. The staff will lead this workshop from 1-3 p.m. in the Activities Building. Natural material from the park will be used to create the wreath, and valentine decor will be provided to add the finishing touches.  Hot chocolate will be served. General Butler State Resort Park, Carrollton: Tribute to Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers Dinner Theater, Feb. 14. General Butler is offering a dinner theater to celebrate Valentine’s Day. This “Real Love” tribute to Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers is from 6-9 p.m. Melody Knighton plays Dolly Parton, and Mark Hinds plays Kenny Rogers. The overnight package, which includes the show, dinner, Sunday breakfast  and a lodge room is $165.95 per couple. The dinner and show only tickets are $40 a person plus tax. Call 502-732-4384.

Greenbo Lake State Resort Park, Greenup: Mystery Dinner Show, Feb. 14. A famed singing trio, the Monroe Sisters, perform in a private concert for their adoring hometown fans before embarking on their farewell tour. Alas, one of the sisters is targeted for murder! Come enjoy a dinner at Greenbo Lake’s Anglers’ Cove restaurant while helping to solve the case. Tickets for the dinner and show only are $40 per person. The park is offering a lodging package that includes a room, dinner and show for $130 per couple. Call 606-473-7324.

Jenny Wiley State Resort Park, Prestonsburg: Valentine’s Day Dinner and Overnight Package, Feb. 14. Visit Jenny Wiley State Resort Park for a romantic dinner on Feb.14. You have your choice of two entrees, a side item, soup and salad bar for $30 a couple. Dinner is served from 4-9 p.m. and will include music by Jodi Conley. Enjoy music by Switchback at 8:30 for a $10 cover charge per person. The park is also offering an overnight package for $99.99 a couple. Kenlake State Resort Park, Aurora: Mardi Gras Valentine, Feb. 14. Kenlake State Resort Park in Aurora will offer a unique themed evening Feb. 14 with a Mardi Gras Valentine. The park’s package includes dinner, dance, overnight stay and breakfast. The dinner will include Cajun-inspired dishes. Adam and The H Bombs will provide dance party music with a blues and rock sound. The package price is $139.95 per couple with a lodge room. The package with a cottage is $159.95 per couple plus taxes. The dinner buffet is also open to the public for $24.95 per person. Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park, Gilbertsville: Valentine Weekend Package, Feb. 14-15. Make plans to visit Kentucky Dam Village for a quiet weekend with your sweetie for Valentine’s Day. The evening will start with a special buffet at Harbor Lights Restaurant from 5-9 p.m. The menu will include herb-encrusted prime rib, oysters Rockefeller, shrimp scampi, and Cajun stuffed pork loin. (The restaurant also offers a bottle of sparkling wine, for an additional cost.) Lake Barkley State Resort Park, Cadiz: Sweetheart Package and Dinner Buffet, Feb. 14. Plan a romantic winter getaway with your valentine to Lake Barkley State Resort Park! For $99.98 per couple, enjoy an overnight stay in a lake view room, special dinner buffet for two featuring a pianist, and audience participation in the “Not-so Newlywed Game” when you book the Sweetheart Package. Guests can choose to extend their stay by adding a Friday or Sunday night room for a reduced rate. Valentine’s Day dinner menu includes carved roast beef and sugar-cured ham; baked salmon in dill sauce; fried chicken; shrimp and pasta Alfredo; roast pork loin; dressing; shrimp cocktail; and an assortment of salads and desserts (nonalcoholic beverage included). Lake Cumberland State Resort Park, Jamestown: That’s Amore Weekend, Feb. 13 and 14. Spend Valentine’s Day weekend at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park. Special lodging rates for Feb. 13-14 are $49.95 per night for lodge rooms and $69.95 per night for all cabins. The Taste of Italy Buffet on Feb. 14 from 4-8 p.m. will offer chicken Parmesan, spaghetti Bolognese, lasagna and roast pork. Also featured will be Roman apples, green beans, buttered corn, cranberry rice, vegetable medley, oven- roasted potatoes and fresh pepperoni garlic bread. There will also be a full salad and dessert bar. Natural Bridge State Resort Park, Slade: Romantic Weekend Package, Feb. 14-15. Natural Bridge State Resort Park is offering a romantic package for couples visiting the park this Valentine’s Day. For the price of $145, each couple will receive one night’s stay, dinner for two at our prime rib buffet and chocolate-covered strawberries delivered to their room. Each couple will also receive admission to the Valentine’s Day square dance Saturday and a breakfast buffet for two the next morning. For those interested in only attending the Valentine’s Day square dance, it will begin at 7 p.m. in the Woodland Center. Admission is $3 per person. Call 606-663-2214.

Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park, Dawson Springs: Valentine’s Getaway, Feb. 14-15. Festivities will begin with a romantic dinner Feb. 14 in Clifty Creek Restaurant, filled with music and dancing. The dinner menu includes carved prime rib, baked and fried catfish, shrimp and pork loin. There will also be an assortment of side dishes, soup, salad and desserts. Romantic music will be performed by Todd Hill, director of jazz studies at Murray State University, from 6-8 p.m. The package also includes a breakfast buffet for two Sunday morning. After breakfast Sunday morning, couples may join the naturalist for a hike at 10 a.m. The Valentine’s Getaway package price is $125 plus tax. It includes one night’s lodging in a lodge room, dinner buffet for two with musical entertainment, breakfast for two Sunday morning and an optional hike. Pine Mountain State Resort Park, Pineville: Wine and Canvas and Valentine’s Day Couples Package, Feb. 14. Pine Mountain State Resort Park is offering two special events for Valentine’s Day weekend. “Wine and Canvas” on Feb. 14 is a painting course combined with wine. Art supplies and an artist will be supplied for $40 a person. There will be a cash wine bar. The other event is a Valentine’s Day Couple’s Package, which includes an overnight stay in the lodge and a four-course dinner that includes entrees, salad, vegetables and dessert. Rough River Dam State Resort Park, Falls of Rough: Sweethearts Weekend, Feb. 13-15. Enjoy a romantic weekend at Rough River Dam to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your special someone. Packages are $269 plus taxes. The package includes a lodge room or cottage, a comedy show Friday evening featuring storyteller Bill Lepp, Saturday breakfast and dinner, a dance Saturday night and breakfast on Sunday.
