Earth Day photography contest open to all Kentucky middle-school students

Deadline is April 3

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 20, 2015) ­ The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) is accepting entries for its fifth-annual ‘Capture the Earth digital photography contest for all Kentucky students in grades 6-8.

EarthDay-logo-for-WebJudges will look for originality and creativity, photo composition, and a brief explanation of how well the photograph celebrates the beauty and diversity of Kentucky and encourages others to care about the state’s environment through stewardship and conservation.

The goal of the contest is to get students to go outside, explore their natural surroundings and connect with nature and to use “creativity and critical thinking skills by taking photos and explaining, in writing, how their photo can encourage others to be better stewards of the environment,” said EEC Secretary Len Peters.

The deadline to enter is 4:30 p.m. one April 3. The winner receives a one night’s lodging at a Kentucky State Resort Park with his or her family. For more information, contact Ricki Gardenhire at 502-564-5525 or [email protected].
