2015 SOAR strategy summit to be broadcast, streamed live

KET, WYMT to air coverage

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 10, 2015) — The second annual Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR) summit on Monday will be aired live on television and online on KET and WYMT from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (EDT).

SOAR_Kentucky_logoCoverage will feature general sessions and discussions from the main auditorium, including remarks from guest speakers U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas E. Perez and Michael Botticelli, acting director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy

The networks will also air special programming on Monday evening to showcase highlights from the summit and interviews with Gov. Steve Beshear, Congressman Hal Rogers and SOAR Executive Director Jared Arnett.

KET’s special broadcast of “Shaping Our Appalachian Region:  SOAR Summit 2015” with hosts Bill Goodman and Renee Shaw, will air at 8 (EDT).

WYMT will broadcast their 6 p.m. newscast live from the Pikeville Expo Center and will air a special SOAR edition of “Issues and Answers” with host Neil Middleton at 7 p.m.

Beshear and Rogers began the SOAR initiative in late 2013 to address economic issues in the region, build on strengths and find community-generated solutions to chronic challenges. Breakout sessions will offer participants information on tourism as an economic driver, recruiting industry and building entrepreneurship, coding, local food, community health and much more.
