Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission to hold public meeting March 12

Agenda includes presentation on pollinators decline

beesFRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 26, 2015) — The Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission (KSNPC) will conduct a public meeting at 10 a.m. on March 12, in the E/F conference room of the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office, 101 Lakeview Court, Frankfort.

The meeting will include a presentation by KSNPC Invertebrate Biologist Ellis Laudermilk entitled, “Pollinators in Trouble: The Need for a Holistic Conservation Approach.” The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that bees pollinate 75 percent of all nuts, fruits and vegetables grown in the U.S., a harvest worth between $20-$30 billion annually. The commission is making pollinator conservation a major priority.
