Community invited to celebrate groundbreaking for new UK residence hall

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 16, 2012) — Transformation of University of Kentucky student housing begins with a groundbreaking Tuesday for New Central Residence Hall, and the campus and Lexington communities are invited.

The groundbreaking event begins at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Haggin Field behind Haggin Hall near the intersection of  University Drive and Hilltop Avenue.

“This is an important day in the life of our university, and I hope that many of you can arrange your calendars to join me as we break ground on yet another promise for a bright future for Kentucky,” said UK President Eli Capilouto in an email sent to all students, faculty and staff on campus.

UK will sign an agreement Monday with Education Realty Trust (EdR) on a 50-year ground lease to develop and manage the new residence hall that will offer modern housing as well as high-tech classroom space. UK is in discussion with EdR concerning a partnership that would encompass all of the university’s housing stock.
