Mountain Park Expansion construction to close Gifford Road west of Salyersville

Will be closed beginning Monday

SALYERSVILLE, Ky. (March 25, 2015) — Contractors working on the Mountain Parkway Expansion west of Salyersville expect to close Gifford Road for an extended period beginning on Monday.

parkwayMotorists to the north of the Mountain Parkway will be able to access U.S. 460 to reach Salyersville and motorists to the south of the parkway can travel via KY 3337 to KY 30 to access the parkway at Exit 72.

The closure will speed construction of a bridge that will be part of a new interchange near mile point 70 of the Mountain Parkway—about five miles west of Salyersville. Construction work on the bridge is expected to begin in a few weeks.

Clearing, drilling and blasting activities are continuing in the area, and the speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph. Traffic on the parkway will continue to be stopped during blasts for the safety of workers and travelers, causing short delays.

Work also is continuing near mile point 75 of the parkway, where contractors have begun clearing trees around the KY 7/Salyersville interchange. The clearing work has limited impacts to traffic.
