Bowling Green, Ky. (May 31, 2016) – Cave Country Trails Inc. will host a free Community Mapping meeting at the Cave City Convention Center on Tuesday, June 7, at 6 p.m. This meeting is a follow-up to the Community Trail Planning Workshops held in February and March.
The group will be reviewing the four-county composite trail map developed from public input at the four workshops held in Barren, Hart, Edmonson and Warren counties.
“This composite map is the start of a master trail plan to connect all four counties,” Helen Siewers, Cave Country Trails Project Director, said. “We need public input when we reveal this mapping plan to help set priorities, verify the projects and brainstorm more ways to seek funding.”
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is assisting in the production of a trail use survey for meeting attendees that will help the group determine which projects should be prioritized.
“While devising a long-term plan to connect trails in these four counties is our mission, there are lots of ways the people can get more involved in the group,” Sandra Wilson, Cave Country Trails President, said. “People can
volunteer to help preserve the trails, attend events happening at the national and state parks, or just get out and explore all the unique offerings south central Kentucky has when it comes to outdoor adventure.”
Trail user groups and enthusiasts can continue to become more involved in the trail planning process by partnering with Cave Country Trails Inc. to identify viable routes with public lands and private property owners. The public can also contribute to the effort by volunteering with ongoing maintenance projects in the participating counties. Accessing maintenance plans can be accomplished through trail user groups.
Maintenance projects include, but are not limited to, picking up litter and clearing the trails of fallen trees and
debris. Two currently-active trail groups who are seeking volunteers are the Southwest Kentucky Mountain Biking Association (SWKyMBA) and the Mammoth Cave Back Country Horsemen (BCH).
