Power Creative founder Mike Power dies at 71

Power Creative has announced that the company’s founder, Mike Power, has passed away. He was 71.

Power Creative, one of Louisville’s largest advertising agencies, started in 1976 as Power Graphics, a design firm. Power started the company with a $10,000 bank loan and $2,000 from his father-in-law, the company’s website said announcing his passing.

In 1981, Power Graphics moved to its current Jeffersontown location – at the time there wasn’t even a Blankenbaker exit off of I-64. The original building was 7,600 sq. ft. Today the Power campus is over 80,000 sq. ft.

Over time Power Graphics added to its suite of offerings to clients, photography, typesetting, web design, and ultimately became a full-service advertising agency. The company changed its name to Power Creative in 1998.

Outside of Power Creative, Power was a strong local advocate for the community and education. Power served for 16 years on the Jefferson Community and Technical College advisory board, and with his son, David, helped develop and fund the Power Creative Designer-in-Residence at the University of Louisville’s Hite Art Institute. In 2006, Power directed a Power Creative team that produced collateral material to support the development efforts of the Olmsted Parks Conservancy’s Woodlands Restoration initiative.

In 2009, Power transitioned from acting CEO at Power Creative to Chairman of the Board.
