Kentucky Horse Racing Commission names pari-mutuel wagering, compliance supervisor

FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 4, 2016) — The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) announces the appointment of Steve May as supervisor of Pari-Mutuel Wagering and Compliance.

“The Commission is fortunate and excited for Steve to join our team,” said Marc Guilfoil, executive director of the KHRC. “He brings much experience and a deep knowledge of pari-mutuel wagering and the horse racing industry.”

May will be responsible for all compliance matters related to pari-mutuel wagering and the entities involved, oversee and coordinate licensing and approvals, and create procedures to ensure compliance and auditing.

“I am excited to go to work for the commission,” said May. “The KHRC is a leader in the industry and I look forward to helping maintain the integrity of horse racing in Kentucky.”

Since 2010, May served as vice-president and business manager of the Association of Racing Commissioners International (ARCI), a quasi-regulatory trade association representing pari-mutuel racing commissions across North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.  Prior to joining ARCI, May worked for the Harness Tracks of America, Tioga Downs Racetrack and Rillito Race Track.

May is a graduate of the University of Arizona Race Track Industry Program, where he received the Distinguished Student Award in 2009.

The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) is an independent agency of state government charged with the responsibility of regulating the conduct of horse racing and pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing and related activities within the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
