Preheat your ovens and thread your needles

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 4, 2012) — Last year, bakers, quilt makers and farmers alike gathered to showcase their most prized creations. More than 50,000 entries were judged. This year, the talented citizens of Kentucky are continuing the 108-year tradition in hopes of walking away with cash prizes and a coveted blue ribbon. And with new classes being offered this year, everyone is sure to find their niche.

The general entry deadline for all categories is Monday, July 2. All entries can be made online now by visiting www.kystatefair.org and filling out the online entry form. Forms also are available as a PDF and can be mailed once completed.

General entries include more than 30 departments of almost anything that can be baked, made, grown and sewn. Late general entries will also be accepted, with a fee, until Tuesday, July 10. The entry deadlines for Open and 4-H/FFA Youth Livestock as well as Pigeon and Poultry are due July 10. Rabbit applications are due July 18. Late entries for open livestock, with a fee, are due July 25. Extra late open livestock, with a fee, are due Aug. 6.

Make sure to check the Kentucky State Fair Premium book to find rules, prizes and drop-off deadlines specific to individual categories, as some entries are judged before the fair.

The 108th Kentucky State Fair is Aug. 16-26 at the Kentucky Exposition Center. For more information and continued updates on the 2012 Kentucky State Fair, visit the official website at www.kystatefair.org.
