HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (June 5, 2012) — IDG’s CIO magazine today announced that Northern Kentucky University is a recipient of the 2012 CIO 100. The 25th annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).
“For 25 years now, the CIO 100 awards have honored the innovative use of technology to deliver genuine business value,” said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of CIO magazine & events. “Our 2012 winners are an outstanding example of the transformative power of IT to drive everything from revenue growth to competitive advantage.”
“The CIO 100 Award is a great honor for Northern Kentucky University and the Office of Information Technology,” said NKU CIO Tim Ferguson. “The award demonstrates the importance of technology in the education ecosystem in the 21st Century. Our new building for the College of Informatics provides a living, breathing digital laboratory for students, faculty and the community to learn, research and innovate in this digital age.”
NKU sought to create a new kind of building in Griffin Hall, one that established a foundation for the future of higher education. The university applied information technology as a tool for designing a better future for teaching, learning, collaborating, research and engaging the community. Its business needs dictated that NKU not only increase enrollment and tech-savvy graduates, but that it use the technology in the new building to drive an ecosystem that encourages the business community to do research in the building, encourages entrepreneurs to come to the region to create jobs and ultimately encourages students to fill the talent pool as all this develops.
“Leading-edge teaching facilities will have a direct impact to our students’ academic success and provide a robust platform for their education,” Ferguson said. “These digitally enhanced learning environments establish an interactive and collaborative setting that bolsters learning and connects the faculty and students in truly transformative ways.”
Executives from the winning companies will be recognized at the CIO 100 Symposium & Awards Ceremony, to be conducted Aug. 21 at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.
