Amazon.com Inc. is investing more than $20.7 million to open a new 70,000-s.f. customer service facility in Winchester that will create 550 full-time and 600 seasonal jobs by 2017.

Although Amazon subsidiaries operate fulfillment centers in Louisville, Lexington, Campbellsville and Hebron, the Winchester facility will be the company’s first customer service center in the state.

The new customer service center is expected to open in late summer and will be based at Winchester Plaza during construction of the permanent facility in the Winchester Industrial Park, which is expected to open in 2013.

According to Todd Denham, executive director of the Winchester-Clark County Industrial Authority, the average hourly wage for full-time employees will be $15.64, which equates to approximately $20 with benefits.
