FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 29, 2012) — Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman David Armstrong became the first Kentuckian elected president of the Mid-Atlantic Conference of Regulatory Utilities Commissioners (MACRUC) at the organization’s just-concluded annual meeting.
MACRUC promotes information exchange and cooperation among its members in matters such as regulatory policy, administrative issues, interactions with trade associations and dealings with federal agencies and policymakers. It has 11 members, including nine states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Armstrong was elected president at the annual MACRUC meeting earlier this week in Hershey, Penn. He will serve until the next annual meeting in June 2013.
“Regional organizations such as MACRUC play a significant role in the development and implementation of utility regulatory policies, particularly with respect to interstate issues such as electric transmission and grid reliability,” Armstrong said. “I am honored that my colleagues have entrusted me with the responsibility of leading MACRUC for the next year and look forward to representing our common interests in national discussions of utility policy.”
Armstrong recently was instrumental in the entry of Ohio into MACRUC, a move that followed electric utilities in the state aligning more closely with regional transmission organizations in the mid-Atlantic states.
“It is vitally important, particularly a time of rapid change in the utility sector, that we develop strong regional ties that best protect the interests of our ratepayers and the utilities that serve them,” he said.
