Traffic pattern changes begin today on Kennedy Bridge in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 5, 2012) — Crews are finishing concrete paving on the southbound lanes of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge. Once this work is complete, motorists will see changes Thursday morning to the traffic patterns on Interstate 65 across the bridge. Traffic had been restricted to one lane for southbound I-65 and two lanes for northbound I-65.

Wednesday evening, crews moved the barrier walls to begin repairs on the northbound lanes of the bridge. Traffic was switched this morning to one lane for northbound I-65 and two lanes for southbound I-65. This change in traffic pattern is scheduled to continue through July 13.

The exit ramps from southbound I-65 to eastbound I-64/northbound I-71 and westbound I-64 reopened Wednesday night.

Crews closed the ramps from westbound I-64 and southbound I-71 to northbound I-65 and the northbound I-65 exit ramp to Jeffersonville (Exit 0). These ramps will be closed through July 13.

Motorists traveling on westbound I-64 and southbound I-71 should follow the signed detour via westbound I-64 into southern Indiana to eastbound I-265 and then access northbound I-65.

The exit ramps from northbound I-65 to eastbound I-64/northbound I-71 and westbound I-64 will remain closed through 5 a.m. on July 9. Motorists should follow the signed detour via I-264.

The following ramps continue to be closed and will remain closed for the duration of the project:

• The exit ramp from eastbound I-64 to northbound I-65 in Kentucky

• The exit ramp from southbound I-65 to Market Street in Indiana

• The entrance ramp from Court Avenue to southbound I-65 in Indiana

Vehicles wider than 9 feet are restricted from traveling through the work zone.

The construction is being done by MAC Construction and Excavating, of New Albany, Ind., at a cost of $18.2 million. All work is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 15. The schedule and duration of work are subject to change in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays.
