Winchester man receives Thacker scholarship at EKU

RICHMOND, Ky. (Oct. 30, 2017) – Zachary Stone, a senior economics major from Winchester, is this year’s recipient of the Kyle J. Thacker Memorial Scholarship at Eastern Kentucky University.

“It’s a great honor to be awarded the Thacker Scholarship,” Stone said. “It’s more than a scholarship. It’s a memory of who Kyle was and what he exemplified. I hope to carry on that example.”

In addition to economics, Stone is majoring in statistics. He is on track to graduate in spring 2018 and hopes to pursue a graduate degree in economics.

Dr. Gyan Pradhan, professor of economics, said, Stone is “an excellent student – industrious, motivated and responsible. His leadership and contributions in campus and off-campus activities have earned him praise and respect from students and faculty. Particularly noteworthy is his outstanding service as an economics tutor.”

The Thacker Scholarship rewards outstanding junior and senior economics majors at EKU and honors the memory of Kyle J. Thacker, a 2012 economics graduate from Somerset who was killed in an accident in February 2013.
