Bids opened for East End Crossing contract of Ohio River Bridges Project

INDIANAPOLIS (July 13, 2012) — The East End Crossing of the Ohio River Bridges Project remains on schedule to break ground in August. On July 11, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) opened bids from six Indiana teams seeking to complete design and build a 3,000-foot extension of Old Salem Road, which includes a 170-foot bridge that will span the future State Road 265 approach to the East End Bridge.

Unofficial bids as read ranged from $3.19 million to $4 million, which includes bids under the $3.47 million engineers’ estimate. Following Wednesday’s opening, INDOT will review the lowest bidder’s Affirmative Action Certification and compliance with Disadvantaged Business Enterprise goals on the contract. An official contract award is expected within two weeks.

When the East End Crossing opens to traffic, Old Salem Road will be the first Indiana exit north of the new bridge. The road will accommodate heavy trucks that serve the nearby Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville and the River Ridge Commerce Center. Work on the Old Salem Road design-build contract will be completed by June 2013.
