Gov. Bevin makes appointments to Kentucky boards and commissions

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 23, 2018) – Gov. Matt Bevin has made the following appointments to Kentucky Boards and Commissions:

Brigadier General Benjamin F. Adams III has been designated Vice-Chair of the Kentucky Commission on Military Affairs.  

  • Gen. Benjamin F. Adams III, of Lexington, is the Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veteran Affairs.  

The Governor appoints five at-large members to the Commission on Military Affairs. The Commission is to preserve and expand national defense and military activities in Kentucky.

Marion C. Forcht has been appointed as a member of the Historic Properties Advisory Commission.  

  • Marion C. Forcht, of Corbin, is the co-owner of Forcht Group of Kentucky. She will serve for a term expiring Aug. 11, 2020.  

The Historic Properties Advisory Commission was established to provide continued attention to the maintenance, furnishings, and repairs of the Executive Mansion, Old Governor’s Mansion and the New State Capitol. It is comprised of 14 members who include the State Curator, the Director of the Kentucky Historical Society, the Director of the Executive Mansion and the Director of the Old Governor’s Mansion. The First Lady serves as an honorary member of the Commission. The Commission has authority over any construction, repairs, structural restoration, or renovation of these properties. In addition, the Commission supervises the maintenance of a current inventory of all furnishings in these properties. The Commission has final authority over articles placed in the properties and moneys spent on these buildings and they develop criteria for the display of objects, and for the use of the public areas and grounds of the New State Capitol.

Diane Spencer has been appointed as a member of the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Advisory Council.  

  • Diane Spencer, of Lexington, is a recruiter coordinator and research assistant for the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging. She will represent the University of Kentucky Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging and serve for a term expiring May 9, 2020.

 The Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Advisory Council was created by the General Assembly 1996. The council has a minimum of 15 members appointed by the governor representing agencies of state government that deal with dementia, local health departments, regional Alzheimer’s Associations, the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, consumers, health care providers and the medical research community. The duties of the Council include establishing and evaluating goals and outcomes for the Office on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders and providing information and education to help Kentuckians locate programs and information.

Steven Cunningham and Paul Ogden have been appointed as members of the Kentucky Board of Home Inspectors. 

  • Steven Cunningham, of Lexington, is a home inspector for HomeTeam Inspection Service. He will represent home inspectors and serve for a term expiring June 15, 2020; and
  • Paul Ogden, of Louisville, is a realtor for RE/MAX Properties East in Louisville. He will represent the Kentucky Association of Realtors and serve for a term expiring June 15, 2021.  

The Kentucky Board of Home Inspectors is made up of 10 gubernatorial appointees. The Board was established to administer and regulate the licensing and conduct of home inspectors within the Commonwealth.

Misti Suzanne Drew has been appointed as a member of the Animal Control Advisory Board. 

  • Misti Suzanne Drew, of Benton, is the 911 director for Marshall County Fiscal Court. She will represent the Kentucky Association of Counties and serve for a term expiring Feb. 26, 2022. 

The Animal Control Advisory Board was established in 1998 by an act of the Kentucky General Assembly. The duties of the Board include making recommendations to the Commissioner of the Department of Agriculture relating to animal control issues, evaluating applications for disbursement of animal care and control funds, establishing shelter standards, and creating training programs.

Wesley Madison Cornett and Neil Lawrence Quinlan have been appointed as members of the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority Board of Directors and the Kentucky Higher Education Student Loan Corporation Board of Directors.  

  • Wesley Madison Cornett, of Waynesburg, is the former principal of Somerset High School. He will serve for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2021; and
  • Neil Lawrence Quinlan, of Louisville, is a certified financial planner with ARGI Financial Group. He will serve for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2021.   

The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority Board of Directors and the Kentucky Higher Education Student Loan Corporation Board of Directors is a public corporation, governmental agency and instrumentality of the Commonwealth established in 1966 to improve students’ access to higher education. KHEAA/KHESLC administers several financial aid programs and disseminates information about higher education opportunities. The appointees are selected by the Governor from a list submitted by the Postsecondary Education Nominating Commission and they serve four-year terms.
