LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 17, 2018) — Appalachian Regional Healthcare and KentuckyOne Health announced today that a definitive agreement has been signed for the purchase of Saint Joseph Martin and its four rural health clinics in Floyd County.

The purchase is expected to close by June 30 and ARH will take over operations of the facilities on July 1.

The 25-bed Saint Joseph Martin hospital will operate under the new name, ARH Our Lady of the Way Hospital, and will become the 12th member of the ARH system, which is consistently recognized for medical excellence and covers communities throughout southeastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia.

ARH President and CEO Joe Grossman said ARH looks forward to building on the hospital’s rich history of providing state and nationally recognized quality care since 1947. Grossman said incorporating a return to the hospital’s original name, Our Lady of the Way Hospital, is a way to continue that legacy while also affirming ARH’s commitment to the hospital’s growth and plans to bring new services to the community.

“As the region’s largest integrated health system, it has been ARH’s longstanding mission to provide all residents of Eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia with local access to the medical services they need, whether that be primary care, home health, or more specialized services such as cancer care and open-heart surgery. Bringing Saint Joseph Martin into the ARH system will allow ARH to offer these very important healthcare services to even more residents throughout eastern Kentucky,” Grossman said. “We are proud that the Saint Joseph Martin team will now be a part of the ARH system and our long-term plans for the future of healthcare in Eastern Kentucky.”

“KentuckyOne Health is pleased with the transfer of ownership and operation of Saint Joseph Martin to Appalachian Regional Healthcare. From the beginning of our discussions with ARH, we have been confident they have the in-depth knowledge and experience to serve the Martin community for the future. Its vision for the future ensures a continued commitment to Martin through engaging clinical care providers, employees and community partners,” said Kathy Stumbo, president, Saint Joseph Martin. “With a legacy in Eastern Kentucky and a close connection to members of this community, Appalachian Regional Healthcare has a commitment to excellence in health care and support of physicians and employees delivering quality care.”
