LogoMastHeadLEXINGTON, Ky. (April 18, 2018) — Applications are available now for Commerce Lexington Inc.’s nationally-recognized leadership development program called Leadership Lexington. The 2018-19 program is presented by Lexus of Lexington.

Since 1979, this program has been cultivating Lexington leaders, producing nearly 1,500 graduates from this highly informative, educational and results-oriented leadership development program. Graduates of the program have impacted our city in areas such as public art, healthy living, downtown way-finding signage, hunger relief, community engagement and more.

The program gives participants the opportunity to better understand our city and to prepare for the challenges it faces by meeting with and learning from today’s leaders. Leadership Lexington is an educational opportunity that broadens perspectives and allows participants to gain increased understanding of community dynamics and public issues.

Classes meet in different locations around the area each month with a major program topic covered by knowledgeable speakers and panels, tours, group activities, demonstrations and class discussions. Sessions include topics, such as government, education, public safety, economic development, arts, equine, diversity, health and human services, and leadership development.

As part of the program, class members participate in community projects where they practice and apply leadership skills in a group experience, work with community leaders, gain in-depth understanding of a community organization and/or community need and make a positive difference in the lives of others. Project work is done outside of regular day session meetings.

CURRENT CLASS PROJECTS INCLUDE:
LexGiveBack (April 22-25): A week-long community service project, during which individuals and organizations are encouraged to engage in acts of compassion toward their fellow Lexingtonians. State of the Classroom’s Spring Forum (April 19 at Frederick Douglass High School, 5:30-8 p.m.) features a keynote address, a panel discussion and community roundtables centered around education. Going Pro: Opening Doors to Your Future is a professional career training program helping high school students develop and practice the skills to seek and hold a good job. BRIDGE is a cross-generational mentoring program that helps strengthen connections between generations in the workplace.
