KCTCS announces All-Academic Team

(April 25, 2018)’ Kentucky’s top community and technical college students have been selected for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System’s (KCTCS) 2018 All-Academic Team. Students from each of the 16 KCTCS colleges were chosen based on a rigorous selection process that focuses on academic performance and community service.

This year’s All-Academic team members are:

Ashland Community and Technical College: Brittany Mendez, Eryn Casey

Big Sandy Community and Technical College: Breonna Terry, Kennard Ratliff

Bluegrass Community and Technical College: Emily Moore, Krystal Porter

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College: John Ronkainen, Hannah Hunt

Gateway Community and Technical College: Ricky Smith, Viviane Johnson

Hazard Community and Technical College: Sarah Deal, Zachary Smith

Henderson Community College: Malia Gardner, Ralyn Buckman

Hopkinsville Community College: Bianca MacCargar, Sonya-Marie Rodriguez

Jefferson Community and Technical College: Manuel Luna, Bobby Shoopman

Madisonville Community College: Joshua Knight, Victoria Tappe

Maysville Community and Technical College: Justin Shutt, Jessica Beil

Owensboro Community and Technical College: Annie Miller, Alexander Mindrup

Somerset Community College: Jonah Deaton, Amy Robinson

Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College: Loai Aldarawish, Mollie Harlan

Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College: Lauren Lee, Allison Harris

West Kentucky Community and Technical College: Gavin Posey, Meagan Truitt

KCTCS also is honoring the Kentucky New Century Scholar, Jonah Deaton, from Somerset Community College. This recognition is awarded to the highest-scoring student in each state in the All-USA Today Academic Team competition.

Deaton receives a $2,000 stipend funded by the Coca-Cola Foundation and the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. Additionally, he will represent Kentucky at the American Association of Community Colleges Annual Convention.

The Kentucky New Century Scholar also receives the Martha C. Johnson scholarship, which was established in honor of the founding chair of the KCTCS Board of Regents, Martha Johnson.

This year, KCTCS also has a Coca-Cola All-Academic Team Gold Scholar, which is Emily Sands from West Kentucky Community and Technical College. She receives a $1,500 scholarship from Coca-Cola.
