Boardwalk to break ground on new office as part of downtown Owensboro investment project

OWENSBORO, Ky. (Aug. 14, 2012) — A groundbreaking ceremony for Boardwalk Pipeline Partners on Wednesday marks the initiation of a $44 million private investment project, which will include a downtown Holiday Inn adjacent to the Owensboro Convention Center, as well as residential development along the Ohio River.

Boardwalk Pipeline Partners will construct a new 60,000 s.f.-office building at 600 W. Second Street, which will house all of Boardwalk Pipeline Partners’ 200 local employees and operations. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. CDT.

More than $89 million in private investment has been announced as a result of the market-based downtown plan, approved by Owensboro-Daviess County governments in 2009. The plan resulted in $120 million in publicly funded infrastructure and amenities to reinvent downtown Owensboro as a walkable, mixed-use urban center. A $20 million Hampton Inn and Suites will broke ground on March 13.

The Owensboro region is experiencing a renaissance with economic development and infrastructure projects with a total of $1.5 billion in new projects, including a new hospital, a renovated airport terminal, and several transportation projects.

The city was among the top performing metropolitan areas in Kentucky last year in job growth.
