Kentucky American Water announces 2021 environmental grant program recipients

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky American Water has awarded a total of $8,800 to recipients of the 2021 American Water Environmental Grant Program. The program supports innovative, community-based environmental projects that improve, restore or protect the watersheds, surface water, and groundwater supplies within Kentucky American Water’s service area.

This year, the City of Sadieville, in partnership with Scott County Habitat for Humanity, will receive a grant of $5,000 for a watershed cleanup and repair project along Vine Street and Angle Alley in Sadieville to alleviate stormwater run-off issues currently affecting the corridor and those traveling through it.

Lexington-Fayette Urban County Parks and Recreation, in partnership with Friends of Wolf Run and the Southland Park Neighborhood Association, will receive a grant of $3,800 for the Southland Park Waterway Adventure Playground.  Grant funds will support new green stormwater infrastructure features being built at the park, including plantings for the wetland area as well as educational signage.

Projects will be completed this year.
