Delta Dental of Kentucky to donate 10,000 toothbrushes

Louisville chapter of Blessings In a Backpack to help local school-aged children
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Blessings in a Backpack Louisville Chapter, which helps feed local elementary school students on weekends, has joined forces with one of Louisville’s largest not-for-profit organizations, Delta Dental of Kentucky, during the city’s biggest day of local giving, Give for Good Louisville.

The iconic 24-hours of local philanthropy, hosted by the Community Foundation of Louisville, will kick off on Friday, September 17, beginning at 12 a.m. and running through 11:59 p.m. During this time, Delta Dental of Kentucky will contribute one toothbrush for every $1 donated to the Blessings in a Backpack Louisville Chapter, up to 10,000 toothbrushes. These will be used to place into the bags of food that students receive on the weekends in Louisville.

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Blessings in a Backpack Louisville Chapter raised more than $39,000 during last year’s Give for Good Louisville event, and with this year’s incentive from Delta Dental, aims to propel community donations even further to help even more children, with a goal of $50,000.

Currently, the Blessings in a Backpack Louisville Chapter feeds more than 5,700 children in 49 JCPS schools. Through a donation of $120, community members can help feed a child every weekend for a school year. Currently, there are 64,000 children in Louisville who may face or are currently facing food insecurity.
