Kennessee bourbon release by Peyton Manning

Peyton Manning

Bourbon connoisseurs know there’s a heated rivalry in the world of whiskey almost as intense as the ones that come in college and NFL football.

It’s the rivalry between Tennessee and Kentucky bourbon.

So when Peyton Manning’s Sweetens Cove line of whiskey launched its newest product on April Fools’ Day, he wondered if the world might think Kennessee was a joke.

Let the Tennessee/Kentucky bourbon rivalry end, Manning said. “We are bringing them together.”

“Did we just become friends?” one of the ads for Kennessee asks. The product is a mixture of Tennessee and Kentucky bourbon finished with toasted sugar maple wood. Kennessee is a new product in the Sweetens Cove line. It is also being sold in Kentucky and Georgia, just in time for the Masters.

For Sweetens Cove Tennessee Bourbon, Manning made cold calls to Indianapolis liquor stores to pitch his bourbon as a perfect concoction to put on their shelves. Sweetens Cove Tennessee Bourbon, 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% malted barley, is a limited release and sells for $200 a bottle. Kennessee is the more accessible little brother to Sweetens Cove, Manning said, selling for $60 a bottle. It will be available in more bars, liquor stores and retailers, places that shied away from a $200 bottle.
